Let any stranger find mee so pleasant a county, such good way, large heath … I am a Norfolk man and Glory in being so.’ Horatio Nelson

Well I am back from a most wonderful weekend away in Norfolk,

And in particular Burnham Overy Staithe, which is on the North Coast.

Burnham Overy Staithe, is a hamlet which sits beside a creek-side harbour.  It is also very close to Burnham Thorpe, the birth place of Lord Horatio Nelson,   [1758 – 1805]

According to local history and to some letters and documents, Burnham Overy was the place where the young Nelson learnt how to row and how to sail a dinghy, just a couple of years before her joined The British Navy.

Burnham Overy Staithe, lies  in between Burnham Market,  which is approximately 1 mile (2 km) to the west of the hamlet and Holkham,  which is 3 miles (5 km) to the east.

We went for my sister’s  Birthday- a very special one.  Accompanied by 13 other women and good friends of my sister, and a wonderful eclectic mix.

We stayed at the most wonderful Glebe Cottage

Which my sister and I found on the Internet and run by a wonderful company called Norfolk Hideaways.

The weather was not great, and so we spent a great deal of time in the cottage- though we had brought with us lots of good food and champagne!

However we did get out a little, we are after all not made of paper after all.   No we British are made of sterner stuff, and are use to the rain…

We were all well wrapped up in our Rain coats and walking boots, and braved the weather to take a look around the local area.

On Saturday we headed first to Holt and then to Wells Next the  Sea where we enjoyed a lunch of Fish and Chips by the Harbour, On Sunday we went for a wonderful walk across the estuary and harbour at Burnham Overy Staithe, and down to the wonderful beaches .  the beach was empty apart from two couples who were also away for the weekend and walking their wonderful Dog.  He took full advantage of what lie before him…

I thought I would share a  ‘few’ of the Photos I took…

I seem to have loads more photos, but I think that is enough for today… the Blog seems slow, and I’m hungry

I hope you enjoy and if you get a chance to visit – I highly recommend it.  A weekend was not long enough, but lucky it’s not too far form The Under Gardener’s Lodge so we will be heading back that way in the near future .
